What to expect during your initial consultation

As Central Vein and Cosmetic Medical Centre is a fully accredited diagnostic ultrasound provider under the Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme (DIAS), you will require a referral from your GP to claim your medicare rebate for any ultrasound services performed. When you arrive for your initial consultation, you will be given a questionnaire to fill out prior to your initial consultation.

At your initial consultation, Dr Simon or Paul Thibault will take a thorough history and do an examination of your leg veins. It is a good idea to bring some loose fitting shorts for this examination. You will be given time in privacy to change into these as needed. Photographs will be taken of your legs and these can be sent electronically to you if you so desire.

Your doctor will then perform a duplex ultrasound examination to test the functioning of your deep and superficial veins. In some circumstances, additional testing will need to be arranged prior to formulating a treatment plan. Once this is done, your doctor will discuss your vein problem as well as the treatment options and formulate an individualised course of treatment, Possible side-effects and complications will be discussed and you will be given opportunity to ask questions about your proposed course of treatment. The costs involved in treatment will be discussed.

It is not usual to have treatment on the same day as your initial consultation. However, for those travelling a long way, if prior notice is given we will try our best to accommodate a request for treatment on the same day.
